My Brand New HuliHuli!

I am taking a momentary break from promoting my artistic friends to promoting my dearest friends....one in particular, Tressie Armstrong, who, among other things, is one of the most generous souls I have ever encountered. She would give you the shirt off her back, take in as many stray puppies as could fit in her cute little house and never think a thing of it. In fact, it is that she is so free with her love and generosity that makes her so special. There is no hidden agenda, no keeping score...just a total love.

She is kind of like a puppy herself, just all motion and enthusiasm. She is willing even before she knows what she is in for!

Today she did something really amazing. She bought me a bike. And not just any bike.....an Electra Hulihuli beach cruiser! It is so beautiful and the funny thing is that is is the blond version of her black beach cruiser. Isn't it so cute???

Look at the detailing....it has whitewalls!!!

She has this same version in black. So now we will be the middle aged yin and yang ladies riding our cruisers in Carlsbad. The pedaling version of Thelma and Lousie!

Thanks dearest Tressie....I will ride this until either my butt or the seat wears out, I promise you! This is the most fun I have had in a very very long time. And the best part is, you will be sharing the fun with me. I love you, soul sister!!

Queen of Heart Art

To the right, this week I am featuring d.goth, my art-heart mate!

I have loved her work for years. I bought my first piece of hers way back in the late 90's, before I even knew who she was...it was just these beautiful hearts painted on stone tiles that was for sale in a local coffee house. I have a thing for hearts and when I saw these, I couldn't resist. Then I met her a couple of years later through an interesting set of circumstances and we have been friends ever since. She started with hearts and has expanded to many other forms.

Her story is one of hearts breaking and creativity awakening. She is also a teacher and a poet. Visit her website, http://www.dgoth.net/ and you can see what she is currently working on.

Ready, Set, Blog

Welcome to the inaugural post of gg::blog. As soon as I can figure out all the bells and whistles that are available, this place will be shiny as a new penny!

For now, I just want to introduce myself and give a little background on this blog.
Me: a middle-aged white woman who is still married to the guy I fell in love with 25 years ago, with 2 almost grown children who lives in a medium-sized metropolitan Southern California city.
The gg is for Gilson Graphics, my graphic design company of 12 years.

I have been reading other people's blogs for years and thought that I really don't have much to add to the millions of voices out there chronicling their lives in hilarious and poignant ways. What I DO have is a great love of the arts AND a bunch of talented friends. What better way to add beauty to the world than to share the beauty that others are making? I guess that is my way of making beauty too.

I will be posting about the beautiful things I see and know. In this way, you will get to know them too. And isn't that really what the internet is about? In the famous words of E.M. Forester, "...only connect."
